If you read my previous post Faster Firefox Browsing, then you probably already prefer Firefox to Microsoft Internet Explorer.
Reasons Firefox is better than IE (the short list):
- Firefox serves the interests of its user community, not the interests of a large corporation.
- Firefox is open-source and can be modified by anyone.
- Firefox runs on almost any operating system.
- Firefox supports connection pipelining to speed page rendering.
- Firefox can block annoying ads (Adblock Plus add-in).
- Firefox is better at blocking pop-ups.
Well, if Firefox is demonstrably better than Internet Explorer, why do so many of us still HAVE to keep using IE? The sad answer has been that many important sites don’t work correctly with Firefox. Examples include Microsoft, American Express and even WordPress.
I am overjoyed to announce that there is a solution: IE Tab Add-in
IE Tab has been downloaded almost 14 million times. Once you have installed IE Tab and you come across a web site that doesn’t work correctly with Firefox, right-clck the page and select IE-Tab. Then, click the add button to add that site to IE Tab emulation and the problem is gone. It works by using Internet Explorer to render the page within Firefox. I have tested IE Tab on Microsoft Update, American Express and WordPress. All function flawlessly.
While this solution doesn’t allow us to uninstall IE, it does allow us the freedom to select the browser and interface we prefer for ALL web pages. Enjoy!
