Last week, Link Analyst 5.1 was released. In a nutshell, Link Analyst is our network monitoring and network mapping software that automatically identifies devices and monitors their availability and performance. So where Observer monitors application and network performance, Link Analyst covers system and device availability and performance. network monitoring
I spoke with Dave, one of our sales engineers, to get his thoughts on the features in Link Analyst 5.1. He focused on the new customizable reporting and TopN reports in the version. “The new version offers application visibility beyond what’s available by monitoring standard server resources. By using customizable reports that tap into WMI, you can dig deeper than monitoring memory and CPU usage.” network discovery
The TopN reports and customization capabilities work together, providing you an in-depth view of application and server performance. For example, you can find out what servers are running out of disk space. This could be done by setting up a TopN report that presents the Top 10 servers with the least amount of disk space. From a VMWare standpoint, you could monitor virtual servers to see which virtual servers are experiencing the most transactions.
Dave offered up a few quick examples for those monitoring SQL servers. You could set up reports to monitor which servers have the most logins or largest transaction logs. By monitoring these reports, you can diagnose issues that you wouldn’t be able to troubleshoot by looking at server statistics. These reports could identify if the allocated space for transaction logs was full. network mapping,
